100 Things to Eat in Memphis: Wiseguys Chicago Pizza's South Side Italian Sausage Sandwich

Check out our visit to Wiseguys Chicago Pizza in Horn Lake, Mississippi.

It too is on the 100 Things to Eat in Memphis list.  You're supposed to get the South Side Italian Sandwich.  

It took us a little while to find this place, thanks to a certain person's directions mishap.  That person will remain nameless.  

My parents came with us, so we got to sample more than just the sandwich.  

Basically, everything here is good.  Really really good.  The first picture is of the sandwich.  My parents got the Junk Yard Style Pizza.  

The place looks like a house from the outside, so when you turn to get to it, you'll probably think you're headed to a house.  Well, you kinda are.

The inside is decorated in all kinds of Chicago memorabilia.  They also have room outside for kids to play.  

One bad thing:  The service.  While everyone was really nice, there was major disorganization.  It took us a long time to get our pizza and food.  They warn you that the pizza will take 25 minutes, but it's like they forgot to cook our other stuff, so I had to wait for my sandwich about 10 minutes after my parents' food had arrived.

If you've got 2 hours to spare, check this place out.  Enjoy!

100 Things to Eat: Wiles-Smith Drug Store

Get the best milkshake in Memphis while you can!  Wiles-Smith Drug Store is closing.  :(

Luckily for me, I got to try a milkshake before they closed.  This place and the milkshakes is on the 100 Things to Eat in Memphis list, so it's very important that you stop by before November.  

When you walk into this place, you step back in time.  They still have the hooks up by the booths so jackets can hang neatly next to patrons as they eat.   The service is very friendly.  The milkshakes are amazing.  This place is perfect.  

I hate that it's closing the doors.  

Check it out before it's too late.

100 Things to Eat in Memphis: Uncle John's

I'm just here for the bread pudding.  I am an ADDICT.  

So, when I saw that there was a new list of 100 places to eat in the Memphis area and that bread pudding was on that list, I had to jump in the car and get there as fast as I could.

This bread pudding is unique, because it's made with hamburger buns.  It gives it an extra extra fluffy feel.

It's pretty good.  I would put it in the top 5 I've ever had.  (The top spot, by the way, is Sucre in New Orleans.)

This post is from Spring Break, so it's been a minute since I visited Uncle John's in Crawfordsville, Arkansas.  

100 Things to Eat in Memphis: Holiday Ham's Jalapeño Pimento Cheese

Do you have a "death row meal?"  You know, a list of your fantasy food items that you would eat as your last meal...

Holiday Ham's Jalapeno Pimento Cheese is on mine.  

Oh my gosh.

And to think, I didn't think I liked pimento cheese until a little over a year ago.

That's when Patti made some that was so freaking good. 

Now, I love trying pimento cheese.  

I would say that Patti's and Holiday Ham's is a tie for first place. 

I do NOT recommend grocery store pimento cheese.  Yuck.

Do yourself a favor.  Get a friend who cooks like Patti or head over to Holiday Ham for some amazing pimento cheese.

Napa Cafe Seared Duck Breast

In a word: overrated

We were invited here by some of our good friends.  I had never been to Napa Cafe, so I was excited to try something new.  

I googled Napa Cafe to see if it had anything on the 100 Things to Eat in Memphis list.  

Something came up on the search results, but I couldn't find it on the actual list.  I went with the search results, which said to try the duck breast. 

It was just okay.  Nothing special.  

And this place was EXPENSIVE.  I think our bill was $120.  

Anyway, come to find out, someone had suggested the duck breast in the comments section of the blog.  This is why it was coming up on search results.

So, not very impressed with this restaurant.  

The company was good though!

100 Things to Eat in Memphis: La Guadulapana

This summer I was asked to attend Common Core training at White Station High School.  The best part about it was its proximity to Taqueria la Guadulapana.  My sweet teacher friend Karri and I ate there twice. 

The 100 Things to Eat in Memphis blog says to order Chilaquiles with fried eggs.  It was GREAT!  Very unique flavor.  Also, the service was excellent.  I highly recommend!

100 Things to Eat in Memphis: La Michoacana

So... I had my 3 hour diabetes test yesterday.  The test was preceded by 3 days of following a strict diabetes diet.  It sucked.  I don't know if I failed or passed, but the lab tech told me I was free to eat whatever.  

So, Michael and I went to La Michoacana.  I've heard their desserts are awesome, so I was excited.  Espcecially after a week of eating sugar free.  

The 100 Things to Eat in Memphis blog says to get any flavor of their paletas.  I got coffee.  It was delicious.  I could have eaten three of them.  

The one annoying thing was that the flavors aren't listed.  The girl had to say them all to me.  They need to get a list up.  Maybe it's there, but I missed it.

100 Things to Eat in Memphis: River Oaks

Date Night!

A couple of weekends ago Michael and I had "date night" at River Oaks Restaurant.  

It's on the 100 Things to Eat in Memphis list.  

Michael's mom bought me some super cute maternity skinny jeans that I had been dying to wear.  I actually felt pretty hot for the first time in a while.  The black camouflages the bump, but I promise it's there.  

I cannot recall ever having been to this restaurant before, but my mom said she thought we went to some birthday party here or something once.  Anyway, it felt like a new experience to me!  The restaurant was mostly made up of East Memphis WASP types.  I don't think anyone in there was struggling with money!  

The prices on the menu also shed some light on the customers.  

Michael and I both got this soup.  I don't remember what it was called.  But I think it was some sort of corn and crab bisque.  It was DELISH!  

I got the duck two ways.  I liked the way shown on the left way better than the way on the right.   

The dish that's on the list is the Mojo Chocolate Chip Cookie with Ice Cream.  

It's a cute little set up and I enjoyed it, but I do feel like it could have been better.  Maybe it needed to be a little warmer.  Maybe there needed to be more ice cream.  I'm not sure.  I also wish I had ordered coffee with it.  

There is a neat little story that goes along with the cookie.  Read below.

Overall, the only dish to write home about was the bisque, however, if I was in the mood for just dessert, I would head back here and have the Mojo cookie again with coffee.  Also, this place is pretty overpriced.  

100 Places to Eat in Memphis: Jr's Fish and Chicken

Here, you are supposed to get the gyros.

I'm not really a huge fan of gyros, but this one was really good! I used to go to this Greek place in Shreveport and get gyros occasionally, because there was nothing else around the station. This place blew that place out of the water.

They had a Philly steak sandwich on the menu too. I think I'll try that next time!

100 Things to Eat: Stone Soup Cafe's Cheesecake

Mom and I headed to Stone Soup cafe to cross another dish off the 100 Things to Eat in Memphis list.  This time it was the banana pudding cheese cake at Stone Soup Cafe.

Duh, duh, duh, duh!!!

It was YUMMY!

Of course, I never get JUST the food on the list.  

I also tried the french onion soup, which was PHENOMENAL. 

I also had a sandwich.  The sandwich was just okay.  It was very dry.  

Overall, a fun and tasty eating experience.
